Creating a Vignette

Websters defines a vignette as any small endearing scene, view, or picture.  Creating a vignette in your home is a great way to add a little design interest to any space.  The perfect  vignette is easy to create if you keep these 4 simple concepts in mind.

1.  Focal point-  Every space needs a focal point and a vignette is no different.  A focal point should help to draw you into the space.  Good focal point options include mirrors,  a piece of art, or a collection of photos.

2.  A grounding element-  Chose an item or two to add visual weight to the space.  I suggest a piece with storage, so it serves double duty.

3.  A touch of whimsy-  I believe every space needs something unexpected to keeps things interesting.   A quirky or personal accessory serves this purpose perfectly.

4.  Pattern  and/ or color- A patterned wall (either with paint or wallpaper), or a pop of color sets the mood of the vignette.  If putting up patterned wall paper or painting your wall a bold color sounds scary, bring in color through accessories or artwork.  Low commitment, but big impact.

  1. LOVE this. I've been all about creating cute vignettes since the remodel! Entryway table, home office desk and guest bedroom dresser have been my latest projects. I'll do a post on them soon!
