Right Now Red

Red is one of the hot colors trending for Fall.  It exudes warmth and energy, and adds a pop to any room.  I like red, because it is a very classic, timeless color.  Red is an excellent choice as the main pallet in a room, or as an accent.  And no one ever says that red is boring.

Trending: Locks

I found this cute little lock at an antique store.  I love the industrial vibe it adds, and the yellow paint is perfect!

Pinterest Love

So I am sure most of you have heard of Pinterest...but have you tried it?  Those of you that have, are too busy pinning to read blogs anymore...ha.  It is mucho addictive.  Pinterest is a virtual corkboard that allows you to "pin" photos and organize them into categories....genius. I love it for collecting pictures that are inspiring to me, and ideas for DIY and craft projects.   If you are interested in checking it out, you can see my boards here.  But know that you have to request an invite to create your own boards.  I am happy to extend an invite to the first 6 people who comment on this post.  You must give your email address in order to receive the invite (Pinterest's rules).  If you are uncomfortable leaving your email address in the comments, just leave a comment about how you hope to use Pinterest and send your email address to me via housevintage(at) gmail (dot) com.

P is for Pallet

I have been noticing a lot of really cool DIY projects utilizing pallets lately.  I love this idea because pallets are typically something you can find for free! Here are a few ideas that are inspiring me.

H is for: Hooks

Being organized is a lofty goal, especially when you still want things to look pretty!
Hooks are an excellent way to create a landing spot for your stuff, and with these ideas pretty is an understatement.

E is for Embroidery Hoops

Confession...I am a little obsessed with embroidery hoops.  They are just the perfect way to create inexpensive, versatile wall decor.  Here is how I am currently using this trend in my own dining room.  When I grow tired of these colors, I can simply swap out the fabrics.  Also, new fabric hoops can be easily added as I acquire more fabric I love.

Trending: Animal Busts aka Taxidermy Chic

I grew up in a part of the country, where people would mount animals on their walls.  Now granted, most of the time these animals were trophies of a particularly fruitful hunting trip, and not necessarily a design statement.  Therefore, I am very comfortable with this current trend of ceramic or paper animal heads.  In fact, I kinda like it!  A little sampling of taxidermy chic...

D is for: D.I.Y. Art

The right piece of art really makes a room, but can also be quite pricey.  Drawing or painting are not my strong suits, so I have always been inspired by art that I can actually make myself.  And saving a buck by finding beauty in the ordinary or unexpected is perfect for me.  I am thinking a few of these ideas might be perfect for you too!

C is for: Chevron

The chevron pattern, known on the street as the zig zag, is all the rage in design right now.  It has the classic appeal of a stripe, but is a little more fresh and unexpected.

B is for: Button

Growing up, my Grandmother had these tins of old buttons that I loved to dig through.  There was always a little treasure to be found, if you were willing to look.  I still love buttons, and I also love these great ideas for decorating with them.

A is for: Abacus

Lately, the abacus has been on my design radar.  I really like art that in addition to being visually interesting,  also serves a purpose.  Not that I am regularly counting things on an abacus, but the point here is I could, should that need arise!  Abaci (apparently abacuses is also aceptable) are available new and vintage, and at many price points.
