Trophy Talk

At an estate sale last weekend I picked up two small trophies.  This sale was a bit odd, and I was sure that I was going to leave empty handed.

But I spotted a cabinet of knick knacks and inside were these tiny trophies.  Apparently the previous owner was the proud parent of a poodle named Petina (that's a lot of P's).  Anyway, Petina was quite the star of the local dog show circuit.  Obedience was her thing, and the trophies belonged to her.  One trophy was in pretty good shape, so I put that one in my Etsy shop.  The other one had some cracking and flaking, so I thought it would be the perfect candidate for a chalkboard paint facelift.

I started by cleaning and prepping the trophy by removing any lose particles.  I opted not to prime, but depending on your material, you may want to use a primer first.  I sprayed 2 light coats of chalkboard paint.  Next, use the side of a piece of chalk to cover the writing surface.  Wipe off the chalk and you are ready to write a message.

This would also be a really cute Valentine's Day present, that could be updated all year long.

best of april
