I don't know about you, but there are some rooms in my house that seem to come together rather quickly. And then there are other rooms, that take months years to get right. The master bedroom is one of those rooms for me. It started out with hacking these Ikea chests into bedside tables.
Then came lamps, pillows, and art.
Finally a new dark leather headboard.
But it still didn't feel right to me. There was just something that was off, and I never really loved it. Then it dawned on me. What was feeling off to me were all the hard lines...all the squares. So I started to count them up and realized that everything in there was a square or rectangle, and the room needed more organic, soft lines.
Shopping my house, I found a light wooden tray, a round woven place mat, and a cork circle. Putting them up on the wall gives some softness and texture. It also mimics the circles in my pillow fabric.
It definitely feels softer and cozier. I like the repeat of the circles and the monochromatic palette. And it was a free upgrade, as I already had all the pieces.
I can't guarantee that it will stay this way forever, but I'm really liking it for now!
I love how the new headboard ties nicely with the bedside tables! That last pic looks like a hotel room!
