The Best of February

February has come and gone.  Those 28 days always seem to fly by!  But we accomplished a lot blog wise.  Let's reflect, shall we?  Last month, we cleaned, organized, and spread some love...

Q is for Quilt



I think every home needs a quilt.  There is just so much nostalgia and Americana wrapped up in these pieces and a soft, much-loved quilt is the perfect thing for summer picnics in the grass, or napping on a rainy afternoon.  Even if you don't consider your style to be country chic (which I don't) there is still a place for a quilt in your home. So I have been on the hunt for quite some time now for the perfect vintage quilt.    My search was over when these two beautiful quilts were gifted to me!  I just LOOOVE them!  Because I have never owned a quilt before, I needed to do some internet research on how to clean and care for them.  Most of what I read said that quilts must be hand washed, and air dried.  However which a little caution, I was able to clean mine in the washing machine...here is what I did.

Cleaning Copper and a WINNER

I found this antique doorplate at a flea market a a few weeks ago.  It appeared to be copper, but was quite tarnished and grungy.  I liked the ornate detail and the not one but two keyholes.  I snatched it up for $1.  The seller asked me if I was from the TV show American Pickers.  UM....I wish!

I did a little research online and found that you can clean copper with table salt and vinegar.  So I made a vinegar and salt paste that I applied to the copper, and scrubbed (and scrubbed, and scrubbed) with an old toothbrush.  I probably could have scrubbed even more, but I was getting impatient.  I rinsed with water and viola...
