Estate Sale Finds- Dollar Edition

It's that time again...where I share the stuff I found while thrifting. Today's items come from both estate sales and flea markets, but no item cost more that $1.  Let's take a look shall we...

First up is a little birdie salt/pepper shaker that is made to rest on the lip of a bowl. I guess there are occasions when you need easy access to your seasonings.  This little cutie only cost $1 from the flea market.

I purchased this puppy s&p shaker from the same dealer as the birdie. They were next to each other on  the table and seemed like friends, so I bought them both.  He was $1 too.

I found these vintage mid-century table legs at an estate sale in the garage.  They are a little worn, but could be refinished with paint or stain. I always buy vintage hardware or table legs when I find them, because they are such versatile pieces.  Another buck...are you sensing a theme?

Finally this jadeite bowl.  At least I think it is jadeite.  It isn't marked, so it might not be authentic.  However the estate sale that I purchased it from also had other pieces of vintage glassware, so it is a possibility.  I only spent a quarter for it, so if it isn't the real thing I am ok with it. The color is fabulous.

What thrifty finds have you seen lately?  Any items for only a dollar?

Estate Sale Finds- The Good, the Bad, and the Scary Edition

The weekends around these parts have been filled with thrifting lately.  I must admit attending estate sales and flea markets is one of my favorite things to do.  I come by it honestly.  When I was little my Grandma was the garage sale queen.  We would go almost every Saturday in the summer.  She would scour the newspaper for ads and plan out exactly which sales we would attend, and it what order to maximize our buying power.  It really was a lot of fun.  And it is fun that I still enjoy, even now.  I snapped a few pictures of what I saw, so you could live vicariously through me. You can thank me later!

What I Bought to Keep

A few weeks ago I blogged about what I didn't buy on my recent trip.  Now I want to share a few things I bought for myself.  It is impossible to shop all of those flea markets and garage sales and not get a few treasures to keep, maybe not forever, but for now.

What I Didn't Buy

I just got back from a great buying trip.  I was able to purchase some cute items for my Etsy store, and of course a few things for myself! Unfortunetly, there were some items that just couldn't come home with me.  But I did snap a few pic to show you....

An old speaker- I thought this would look really neat with a light in it.  It seemed like it would give off a nice warm glow.

Bar Cart

Perhaps it is because I just recently started watching Mad Men, but I have been thinking that my home is missing a bar cart.  It just seems like a glam, vintage thing to have.  I actually am not much of a drinker, but I do like glassware and cocktail accessories.  Vintage barware is an inexpensive and easy thing to find and collect at thrift stores and flea markets.

Flea Market Find- Horse Painting

SouthernHospThriftyTreasures copy_thumb

I am excited to be participating in Today's Thrifty Treasure at Southern Hospitality.  I found this nice little horse painting at a flea market for $1.  It is probably an old paint by number, but something about it is so sweet.  Look at that little face...I'm such a sucker for anything with a face!  I also thought it had some really nice color.  It had a silver frame that I wasn't a fan of.  It was peeling and chipped.  A little spackle filled the chips, and newspaper and low tack tape prepped the painting for a little oil rubbed bronze spray paint.

Vintage Pendant Light

Well folks, I violated my own thrifting rule.  I found the perfect vintage porcelain sign at a flea market, not once but twice, and didn't buy it.  And it is all I can think about!  I had the perfect place to put it and nothing I find now will ever compare to it.  This is a decorating tragedy. :)

But I suppose I need to move on, and focus on the positive.  And in this case, the positive is the vintage light I did buy.  I found an old metal barn light shade for $5.

One for Me, One for You

Does this ever happen to you?  You buy something intended for someone else, and you end up keeping it for yourself.  Well that is what happened when I bought these two metal carriers at the flea market last month.  I thought I would upcycle them with a fresh coat of paint, and put them in my Etsy store.  Well they turned out so cute, that I had to keep one for myself.  They are so versatile and perfect for corralling  art supplies, candles, or silverware at your next dinner party (which is how I am using mine).

Flea Market Finds

A holiday weekend is the perfect time for a little flea market fun.  I headed out to my favorite local spot, and apparently the rest of the world had the same idea!  It was crowded.  But that didn't stop me from spending a mere $10.00 on this sweet vintage kitchen scale.

What about you...any adorable finds lately?

Flea Market Finds

Came across an unexpected flea market this weekend.  Had to make an illegal u-turn, but it was totally worth it!  Check out some of my finds!
